This is an exciting new and expanding area of business for the company.

We are just completing a major Street Renewal scheme in Peckham, London SE15 (January 2009) for Southwark Council. This has involved the regeneration of two adjoining roads, Astbury Road and Colls Road working on 130 Victorian terraced properties over a 30 week period. We even had Changing Rooms designer, Linda Barker come and help the residents demolish some of the old front garden walls.

The residents are a mixture of owner occupiers, council tenants, housing association tenants and private rented accommodation. Blakeney Leigh has coordinated and project managed the entire project and is very proud of the results. Our Resident liaison manager has dealt with all resident related issues and concerns.

The works comprise the re-pointing and brick cleaning of facades, replacement of front garden walls and railings (all resident designed) and associated works. Render, paint and even stone cladding have been removed from the houses to restore them to their former glory.

We have engaged with the local community and worked alongside residents representatives and other stakeholders to deliver a scheme that the community are rightly proud of as well. Our efforts have been well received and we at Blakeney Leigh welcome these schemes that truly bring communities together with a common focus. The project has involved the local community in the decision making process in seeking to raise the aspirations of and to create a self sustaining community which has capitalised on the existing community spirit.

From our success and experiences, we have now secured further regeneration projects in nearby Meeting House Lane, SE15 and look for similar success in these areas also. We are excited to be working on a project with well known artist and sculptor Maggi Hambling on one of these projects.
